Self-Mastery

“Willpower is the key to success. Successful people strive no matter what they feel by applying their will to overcome apathy, doubt or fear.”                      ~ Dan Millman

What is self-mastery? It is a conscious control of the self; self-control and self-discipline. But what does all that mean to you and me?

A master is someone who is an expert, someone who commands enough knowledge or “power” to lead or rule others. A master is a person whose energy and self leadership is aligned with their purpose; one who easily directs personal power to attract the right people, in the right place and at the right time.  Effectively a master is a leader and self-mastery stems from self-leadership and inner energy.

Everyone has the capabilities to do many things really well. Many of us work very hard to become masters in what we do. We work to become the best manager, employee, sales person or administrator. But, essentially, there is only one thing that we can ever really truly master and it really does not involve much effort at all – being who we are.

Each of us is unique, one of a kind. There has never and will never be another one. We are each perfect, unique beings capable of true greatness. It is when we share our unique gifts with the world in the way we are meant to, is when we will be considered a Self-master.

Self-Mastery is made of up 3 parts:

  1. Understanding
  2. Discovery
  3. Sharing

In order to move towards self-mastery, one must first come to realize and understand that we are each unique beings with a unique gift offering to the world. It is a gift that can be realized through the discovery of our authentic self. In sharing our authentic self and our unique gifts with the world in a way that only we can we are able to achieve self-mastery.

Self-mastery is not in what we do or how we do something but found in knowing who we authentically are and being our authentic self in all that we do. Rather than searching externally, why not slow down, relax and go within to find that which you are really seeking?

Self-Mastery is directly connected with energy and self leadership. It means living an abundant, fulfilling and enjoyable life. One in which you are at the cause, instead of the effect of your life. It is being in control without controlling anyone or anything.

What could be better than resonating at a high energy with the ability to effortlessly attract into your life all that you truly desire?

“The state of your life is nothing more than a reflection of your state of mind.”     –Dr. Wayne W. Dyer

The work in energy and leadership coaching is self-mastery through consciously guiding core energy to match our inner thoughts or “self-talk” with our deepest desires. Starting with understanding our uniqueness, discovering our authentic self and expressing our authentic self by sharing our gift with the world, we cultivate the energy and develop the self leadership skills to bring about self-mastery.

“The more people I come into contact with, the more I want to admire them from afar.”

This is a tongue and cheek quote that expresses my discontent with superficial relationships. I don’t worry about how many friends I have, I’m only concerned with the quality and depth of the relationships I hold dear.

Unlike many people, my friend David, who also enjoys deep conversation, has a very unusual way of engaging people he first meets. He would meet someone on a train, bus, or plane and ask “So, what difference in the world did you make today?” An unusual question, yes, but David is a wonderful and unusual guy.

He may not have a ton of acquaintances, but when he connects with someone, he often times makes a friend for life.

This week, reach out and share yourself with a stranger and they may not be interested or may not be comfortable with your openness, but so what, if not, you probably wouldn’t want them for a friend anyway. But if so, you may have a new friend for life.

The Bottom Line – Believe in Yourself!

The Bottom Line

Face it
Nobody owes you a anything.
What you achieve, or fail to achieve
in your lifetime
is directly related to what
you do or fail to do.
No one chooses his parent or childhood,
but you can choose your own direction.
Everyone has problems and
obstacles to overcome,
But that too is relative to each individual.
Nothing is carved in stone!
You can change anything in your life
If you want to badly enough.
Excuses are for losers! Those who take responsibility
for their actions
are the real winners in life.
Winners meet life challenges head on
knowing there are no guarantees, and
give it all they’ve got
and never think it’s too late
or too early
to begin.
Time plays no favorites
and will pass whether you act or not.
Take control of your life
Dare to Dream and take risks…
Compete!
If you aren’t willing to work for your goals,
don’t expect others to.
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF!”

This piece came to me through an amazing couple whom I have great affection, gratitude and respect for as colleagues, parents and business owners.

It comes down to a few simple things really. Be grateful for where you have been because those experiences have shaped you into who you are today. The past can not be altered. Embrace the gifts you were given.

It’s not about winning or losing, but about living life to it’s fullest. Creating a fulfilling life full of joy. First, expand who you are each day by opening your perspectives and learning something new. With self expansion you can envision new and greater ways of being. It is through the vision you create of your life and how you want to be that your life becomes energized. Your new found energy is what will bring you into action and move you towards your goals.

Simply put, living a fulfilling life is rising to the occasion and taking it head on.

Be grateful, forgive and move forward.

My Pilot Light Never Went Out

And so a new adventure begins…

I find myself on the precipice of a new adventure. In the final stages of planning our relocation to Florida, I am taking stock in how far I’ve come. Let me tell you, I’ve come a long way baby!!

My life has been marked with invention and reinvention of the self. [...]

There are no mistakes!

One of the foundation principles we discussed during my 8 month professional coach training program was, “There are NO mistakes.” When our coaching trainer said that one, you should have heard the flurry of comments and discussion that ensued. It was most interesting.

There was the auto-pilot response. You know, there is a lesson in every [...]

Focus on Service...

Whether you are focusing on your business or personal relationships, base all of your interactions on answering the following question:

“How will this add value for the other person?”

Listen to what the other person is saying and pay attention to what they mean.  Ask for clarification and be specific in your communication.

Think about the people you [...]

Define Success…

Have you ever written down what success in your life looks like?  You must have a detailed and specific vision of exactly what success if for you.  If you do not have a clear picture of where you are headed, you not know how to get there.  If you were a sailor, you would not [...]

Focus on what you want…

The law of attraction says what we think, whether conscious or subconscious, directly effects our actions which dictate our results.  That is why our focus should be on what we want rather that what we don’t want.  What we think becomes reality, whether we want it or not.  Bottom line, there is no way to [...]
